Equipment Investment in the second quarter (Apr.-Jun.) rose by 3.0% over
the same period last year - Stats. of Incorporated Business

According to the Statistics of Incorporated Business during the second
quarter of this year in Japan being released by the Ministry of Finance
on Sept. 01, the amount of total investment, except those of Banking Business
and Insurance Business, was ¥8,561,700 million (*equivalent to US$85,617
million) or 3.0% increase over the same period of last year. Such increment
has been continued in the last five quarters. Out of the increase as such,
Manufacturing Business showed 0.8% decrease while Non-manufacturing Business
was 5.0% increase.
The amount of Capital Investment of overall business, except Software being of increasing attention as a basic factor when calculate the revised value of Gross Domestic Product (GDP), was 1.8% decrease to the figures in the same period of previous year after the seasonally adjustment figure applied.
Sales amount of overall business was ¥315,088,600 million (*equivalent
to US$3,150,886 million), or 1.1% increase to the same period of the previous
year, where the Manufacturing Business was 0.2% increase and the Non-manufacturing
Business was 1.5% increase. Income from Ordinary Operations was ¥16,386,000
million (*equivalent to US$163,860 million) where the Manufacturing Business
was 7.6% decrease while the Non-manufacturing Business was 12.1% increase.
